The Second Chapter: Call Out

Something Other invites submissions of text-based work and other somethings for The Second Chapter: On Migration.

Something Other is a collaborative project hosted by Mary Paterson, Maddy Costa and Diana Damian Martin. We invite experiments in writing that are in dialogue with art, performance and everyday life, to be presented in two (overlapping) ways: as chapters in an online publication of performative writing, and live performance of digital texts.

On Migration will feature on the SO site as The Second Chapter. Our First Chapter featured essays, poetry written in collaboration with Google algorithms, filmed live performance and more.

On Migration begins with the movement of people, the threat of walls, calls for sovereignty and shifting geographies. On Migration extends to walls that have fallen, narratives by the wayside, mobility and agency, welcoming gestures and smalls acts of repair. It might begin with you, or another; here, or elsewhere; then, or now.

Formats

We welcome submissions in all formats, including text, image, video, and experiments in between. Our only constraint is our publishing platform (WordPress). We are open to ideas. We are interested in writing that has a critical engagement with the real world, as well as with language as material.

Performance

Contributors who are based in or have easy access to London are also invited to perform their submissions at our live event, Reading the Internet, also with the theme On Migration. This will take place on April 27 at Peckham Pelican, and will be a fundraising event for Medicins sans Frontieres.

Deadline

Please send submissions to info@somethingother.io by 10am on Monday 27th March 2017. If you have any questions, please get in touch via the same email address.
